New Perimeter has a dedicated staff focused on developing and managing international pro bono projects for DLA Piper lawyers. Based in Washington, DC and New York, New Perimeter’s team includes full-time lawyers, staff members and legal fellows.

New Perimeter is guided by an Advisory Board with an impressive array of international legal, development and business expertise.

Elizabeth (Lisa) Dewey is the Director of New Perimeter and DLA Piper's US Pro Bono Partner. In her role as Pro Bono Partner, Lisa cultivates DLA Piper's strategic thinking on pro bono, including the vision for DLA Piper's US pro bono program, and spearheads DLA Piper's pro bono partnerships with corporate clients, NGOs and legal service providers. Lisa identifies and procures pro bono opportunities and ensures widespread participation in the pro bono programs on partner, of counsel, associate, and staff levels.

In her role as Director of New Perimeter, Lisa helps set the direction and strategic planning for New Perimeter's operation. Lisa developed and is currently managing a major project in Mexico, working with Mexico Appleseed to assist it in creating a sustainable pro bono culture and network in Mexico.

Lisa’s pro bono practice includes representing individuals and public interest organizations, including a man on death row in Alabama, families who lost loved ones in the Khobar Towers terrorist attack, refugees seeking asylum and individuals in family law, juvenile, and housing matters. She has also done civil rights work and appellate work in suits concerning allegations of sexual harassment on behalf of a plaintiff class against the DC Department of Corrections and the admissions policies of the University of Michigan.

Lisa’s experience also includes representing parties in criminal investigations and federal jury trials in the areas of public corruption, mail fraud, money laundering, and health-care fraud. She has argued cases before the US Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the District of Columbia, and the US District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Kristen L. Abrams

Kristen Abrams serves as New Perimeter Program Manager and International Pro Bono Counsel. In this role she identifies, develops and manages a diverse range of New Perimeter initiatives. Kristen developed and is currently managing a major justice sector reform project in Guyana. Kristen also manages two components of New Perimeter’s work in Namibia and has overseen initiatives in India, Peru and East Timor.

Before joining New Perimeter, Kristen was a Government Affairs associate at DLA Piper. Her practice focused on working with domestic and international clients to monitor, analyze and shape government and non-government activities on a variety of issues.

Kristen’s pro bono practice has also included managing the drafting and vetting of a presidential Executive Order on torture and interrogation techniques and representing asylum seekers before US Immigration Court.

Previously, Kristen served on the legislative staff of former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and twice served as an extern law clerk to Judge Reggie B. Walton, US District Court for the District of Columbia.

Sara K. Andrews

Sara Andrews serves as New Perimeter Program Manager and International Pro Bono Counsel. In this capacity, she develops, manages and participates in New Perimeter initiatives around the globe. Projects Sara has developed and managed include legal education initiatives in Ethiopia and Namibia, a project to document and combat politically-motivated sexual violence in Zimbabwe, and efforts to increase rural women's access to financial services in Malawi, Rwanda and Mali. She has developed diverse partnerships with NGOs, government agencies and other joint venture partners.

Before joining New Perimeter full-time, Ms. Andrews practiced as a litigation associate at DLA Piper and participated in New Perimeter’s Kosovo Law Reform Project. She spent four months in Pristina, Kosovo providing legislative drafting assistance to the Kosovo Ministry of Justice and providing legal training to Kosovar lawyers.

Prior to law school, Ms. Andrews worked as a legislative assistant to a US Congressman in Washington, DC and spent a year as a volunteer for the Americorps National Civilian Community Corps.
 

Wanda Delgado

At New Perimeter, Wanda Delgado provides the administrative components of both the organization and its individual projects, as well as serves as the liaison to the New Perimeter Advisory Board.

Wanda also works with the DLA Piper Foundation, effecting grant award distribution and monitoring grantee compliance. Before joining New Perimeter in 2007, Wanda worked as assistant to US Managing Partner Jeffrey Liss. Wanda also has a professional background in education, including graduate business and law school management in the US and in Italy, as well as secondary teaching.
