Elizabeth (Lisa) Dewey is the Director of New Perimeter and DLA Piper's US Pro Bono Partner. In her role as Pro Bono Partner, Lisa cultivates DLA Piper's strategic thinking on pro bono, including the vision for DLA Piper's US pro bono program, and spearheads DLA Piper's pro bono partnerships with corporate clients, NGOs and legal service providers. Lisa identifies and procures pro bono opportunities and ensures widespread participation in the pro bono programs on partner, of counsel, associate, and staff levels.
In her role as Director of New Perimeter, Lisa helps set the direction and strategic planning for New Perimeter's operation. Lisa developed and is currently managing a major project in Mexico, working with Mexico Appleseed to assist it in creating a sustainable pro bono culture and network in Mexico.
Lisa’s pro bono practice includes representing individuals and public interest organizations, including a man on death row in Alabama, families who lost loved ones in the Khobar Towers terrorist attack, refugees seeking asylum and individuals in family law, juvenile, and housing matters. She has also done civil rights work and appellate work in suits concerning allegations of sexual harassment on behalf of a plaintiff class against the DC Department of Corrections and the admissions policies of the University of Michigan.
Lisa’s experience also includes representing parties in criminal investigations and federal jury trials in the areas of public corruption, mail fraud, money laundering, and health-care fraud. She has argued cases before the US Courts of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the District of Columbia, and the US District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
